Home Made Valentines Toys
Give him a nice little surprise with this home made man harness!!!
Materials:
24 inches of silky red narrow ribbon (or any other colour but red is festive)
X2 toggles with buttons (as seen on draw strings on coats, fleases etc, these are obtainable from haberdasheries)
How To Make:
Fold the ribbon in half so that the two end are together, and threat the two toggles onto the ribbon, thus forming two loops to insert the tackle into. The toggles can then be slid up the ribbon closing the loops up to ensure a snug fit. A perfect sausy Valentine's accessory!
Valentines Day History
Valentine's Day - What does it mean to you? A romantic weekend away? A candle lit meal? Comercial poppycock? Another chance to get it wrong, and buy the wrong gift for you lover? Why do we have Valentine's Day anyway?
There are a few stories of how Valentine's Day came about. It's origins can be traced in both Christain and Roman traditions.
One heart warming tail is of the priest Valentine who served during the third century in Rome. Valentine rebelled against Emperor Claudius II and his law banning young men from being wed. The Emperor believed that unattached men made better soldiers. Valentine married young couples in secret, going against this ruleing. However on descovery, Valentine was put to death. Another ending that might have been, is that Valentine was killed helping christians escape Roman prisons.
Another story of the origin of Valentine's Day goes - Whilst in prison, Valentine fell inlove and before his death he wrote to his beloved signing it 'from your Valentine'.
So thats how Valentine's came about. And for you old funny duddies who say its commercialised and just another means to extort money out of the gulliable public - The blame for this lies back in the eighteenth century.
Valentine's day started to become popular in Britain during the seventeenth century; lovers would exchange small tokens of affection and write poems to their loved ones. By the end of the eighteenth century aided by advancement with printing machines and cheap postage prices, the greetings cards for Valentine's Day were widely available and ideas moved away and were discouraged from writing prose straight from the heart.
So we are not responsible for its comercialisation, we are just continuing tradition. Anyway, individuals could always go back to to old ways and poetry. However, for those of you who say that its terrible to have just one day a year for romance, i have nothing much in the way of a counter argument; other than - This day is said to have been picked to comemerate the annaversay of St Valentine's death or burial. The church liked this day too because it aided christianizing a pagan festival. And in ancient Rome it coincided with the start of spring - the season of the begining of all new and beautiful things.
However i agree, its a poor show if you only celibrate your love for the someone special in your life on one day of the year. Althought i don't see that as an excuse for dismissing Valentine's Day, quiet the reverce. I think every day should be treated as St valentine's Day - So let your lover know they are special to you TODAY!!
