INSTEAD disposable menstrual cup Reviewed by surfichick1 What was your first impression of the item sent to you? It appeared professionally packaged. Very discreet as to its purpose. The individual packaging of each cup is again professional and practical. No need to carry an entire box, just pop a couple in your handbag. The cups themselves seemed to be of a high quality (would not tear or come appart). Did you find the information that accompanied this product helpful? Yes. There were clear, easy to follow instructions as to their use. Answers to any concerns regarding fit, comfort, leaking etc. All instilling confidence in the Instead product. What was the item like in action, how did you find the product to use? Mostly excellent! Instead are easy to use. A comfortable fit in many environments and activities. I have used Instead while surfing, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, coasteering, swimming, the list is endless, without any problems. My main concern was the fit and risk of leaking, especially in the public swimming pool. No problems. What was the item like compared to other sanitary products that you have used in the past? As an outdoor pursuits instructor, my job requires me to be either on a rock face or in the sea/river all day. Usually nowhere near any toilets. Instead has given me confidence knowing i can pop one in before work and not have to worry about it until tea-time. Tampons and pads needed changing frequently throughout the day. I have also experienced less abdominal pains when compared to tampons. What was intimacy with your partner like whilst using this product? At first i was a little nervous that the cup would either get in the way, leak or wander around in there. This was not the case. Although i could feel its presence it made no difference to my experience!! Did your partner notice the product during intimacy? Yes. He said that he could feel it during penetration. He assured me that it was not painful or a distraction, not getting in the way. Due to its hardy construction i thought it might rub on him. Other than being able to feel it, Instead was excellent. We prefer it without Instead but we can now have fun during that time of the month, woohoo! Other comments? During one particularly heavy month i had a leaking issue. After wearing Instead for approx an hour in the morning at work i was triggered into fits of laughter by a colleague. I could feel the 'leak' and a few seconds later a damp patch. I nipped to the toilets and discovered a mess. The leak had stained through both my underwear and cream trousers!! I have since used super tampons for those 'heavy' months, but Instead is still my number one choice. Could Instead come up with a re-usable cup. Obviously it would need cleaning/sterilising. I am conscious of throwing used cups in the bin. Knowing they will end up on a land fill somewhere. They don't appear particularly bio-degradable. Would you recommend this item to a friend? Yes. They are reliable, comfortable, practical - duration of wear and the uninterupted activities/life. They work out cheaper than other sanitary products. Do you have any hot tips for use with this item? When inserting the cup, make sure its a good fit i.e. deep and secure. Don't use during heavy periods if you intend doing anything strenuous (or laughing). How would you rate this item out of 5? 5 INSTEAD disposable menstrual cup Reviewed by ludica33 What was your first impression of the item sent to you? i looked at the diagram on the box, and thought how the heck do i do that, on first impression it looked abit complicated, they was neatly packed in little wrappers which looked the same as sanitary towels and easy to carry in you bag. On opening the product i was a little wary as it looked quite round and the latex felt harder than what i expected even though it was very flexible Did you find the information that accompanied this product helpful? The product came with an instruction dvd, it was only 11 mins long but i did have to watch the dvd a couple of times to fully understand what i was doing. There was a brief description and diagram on the box which was easy enough to understand, but in the dvd other women were talking about there experiences of the product which helped to. What was the item like in action, how did you find the product to use? The first time i wore one i felt a bit uncomfortable as if i could feel it, but in the dvd it does tell you it may need to be pushed in a little more if you felt this. The first time using it was a bit awkward, but i think more practice and more use this would become fine. I was worried about re-moving the cup, what if i couldn't reach it, would it be messy, but i found it easier to take out than anything else What was the item like compared to other sanitary products that you have used in the past? The instead felt a lot more cleaner and fresher than wearing sanitary towels, once it was in place properly you could`nt tell you was wearing one and because they collect instead of absorb you can wear them alot longer than towels which was great for bedtime. They can be worn for upto 12 hours which was great because you didn't have to worry about getting caught short and you had that fresh feeling all day What was intimacy with your partner like whilst using this product? I cant say that i noticed any difference, everything was just the same Did your partner notice the product during intimacy? No he couldn't tell i was wearing the cup either, it made no changes, we both didn't feel anything and neither noticed it was there Other comments? I think the outer rim of the cup could be made a little more softer may make it a little bit more easier to use Would you recommend this item to a friend? Most definitely, this is a product i would now switch to, it made your monthly cycle alot more hygienic and convient to use Do you have any hot tips for use with this item? I thought that this was a great idea! I really wanted it to work, when I opened the packet female condom sprang to mind with a harder rim. Did you find the information that accompanied this product helpful? The DVD that came with the product; although a little cheesy, with this is the best thing a woman could ever buy marketing attitude; but was useful for the insertion of instead and how the principle of the item worked and the length of time you could use it for. What was the item like in action, how did you find the product to use? I was really surprised; I thought that this might be another gimmick thing! But it was not, it was easy to use after following the dvd, a little messy until you got the hang of inserting and removing and surprisingly enough you really could have sex with no worries, I thought that my partner may be able to feel it during intercourse but he did not know! So after that experience I trusted it enough; to dress up in my martial arts uniform (which is white) and do a class. I used one in the morning and one in the evening had a shower at these times, great! Life can be simple. These are great; I hate the time of the month but these made it easier to not have to think about what I was doing and whether my period would affect that. What was the item like compared to other sanitary products that you have used in the past? Once you get your head around a new product it either makes it or breaks it in the first 24 hours of use. This is better than other sanitary products for a few reasons: the first and the main reason this really does not interfere with your day, you do not have to carry around extras or the just in-case ones. You do not have to worry about wearing whites or light colours on heavier days. You do not have to worry about any leakage whilst doing any form of sports. You do not have to worry about toxic shock from tampons, or change these every time you go to the loo. One size fits all on any day during your period. What was intimacy with your partner like whilst using this product? There was no change in our intimacy or the way we or I performed, you really can use this with no worries! I did not feel the item during this time. Did your partner notice the product during intimacy? As I have said before that my partner did not even notice it, he could have gone down on me and not even noticed a difference, you just pop a clean one in just before and it does not matter if it’s a quickie or your planning to make a night of it. I cannot say how brilliant I found these to be. Other comments? What is the cost of having freedom, to know that you do not have to worry and you can get on with life? I have checked out the prices, thought about it and I will switch to this new way and may be the more people that do the cheaper they will become. Would you recommend this item to a friend? Every time! Friends and mother are already informed but my 12-year daughter to know about it, no not yet. A little to young I believe. Do you have any hot tips for use with this item? Plan it around washing/shower or bath time; it can be messy at first. Neatly packed in a small box, each one was individually wrapped, once taken out of the wrapping they looked huge and i was unsure if they would fit!!! Yes the information leaflet was helpful and gave you exact instructions on how to insert and remove the product What was the item like in action, how did you find the product to use? I felt it worked well, it took me a few attempts to ensure it was fitted properly and working What was the item like compared to other sanitary products that you have used in the past? I found it comfortable once inserted correctly, i was unsure how often to change it, perhaps after using the product for a prolonged period of time one would be able to gauge how often to change it.....although it did state in the leaflet it could stay inserted for 8 hrs...
