Maca for your Mojo

The Products - Maca

Native to Peru, the Maca plant is a cruciferous vegetable from the carrot, radish and parsnip family. It has been cultivated and used by the Peruvians for several thousand years, both as a foodstuff and also for its medicinal properties.

Of The Earth Maca is grown in the Andes and organically certified by the Dutch body SKAL.

Health benefits include:
  • Improved stamina, vitality and endurance

  • Enhanced libido, sexual function and fertility

  • Regulates menstruation, eases period pains

  • Alleviates menopausal symptoms

During the height of the Incan empire, legend has it that the Inca warriors would consume Maca before entering into battle, which would make them fiercely strong. However after conquering a city, the Incan soldiers were forbidden to use Maca, to protect the conquered women from their powerful sexual impulses...

Maca and be used to make some very delicious and nutritious dishes as detailed in the Recipe pages in this pack.

Maca doesn't have any fixed dosages, but about a tablespoon or two a day should be enough to get you going…

Maca can be sprinkled over cereal such as muesli or porridge, mixed into yoghurt with honey, stirred into soups or hot and cold drinks. It can also be sprinkled over salads or put into salad dressing.

Maca and Banana Smoothie

Delicious nourishment couldn’t be any easier or more convenient…

You will need a blender for this recipe

2 bananas
1 level tablespoon Maca
8 strawberries
100g dried apricots
100ml spring/filtered Water

Serves 2

Soak the apricots for about an hour. Place them along with all the ingredients into your blender and whizz until smooth.

Pour into a tall glass and sip tenderly, being aware of the rather serious array of nutrients that your body is being blessed with.

Maca Crème

Another dish which is a great dessert - but we love it so much, we eat it any time we can!

For this recipe you will need a blender.
100g cashew nuts
1-2 bananas
1 vanilla Pod
1-2 tablespoons Maca Powder
1 tablespoon Cacao Nibs/ Raw Cacao Powder
1 pinch Fleur du Sel sea salt (optional)
1 tablespoons Yacon syrup or Honey (optional)
A little rice milk, milk or water

Serves 2

Soak the cashews in water for at least one hour (4 hours is best). Put them in your blender and add the bananas and Maca powder. If the blender is having a hard time and the mixture is too gooey, add a splash of liquid – rice milk is best but water or regular milk would do!

Now split the vanilla pod and scrape it's fragrant innards into the blender. Add a pinch of the salt if you like and the Yacon syrup or honey to taste. We prefer it's unadulterated natural sweetness.

Blend everything up a bit more. Now you can add half the Cacao in to the mix or use it all afterwards as a garnish.
When the mixture is smooth and gooey, it is ready to be spooned into ramekins, bowls, glasses or even empty avocado skins! Serve chilled and prepare to have some decadently delicious fun.

Maca Mango Mousse

Maca Mango Mousse For this fruity treat, you will need a food processor or a blender.
Ingredients:
1 mango, medium
1 banana, medium
½ lemon, juiced
1 ½ tablespoons Bee pollen (optional)
1 tablespoon Cacao Nibs or Raw Cacao Powder (optional)
1 tablespoon Maca
A handful of fresh raspberries (or any berries of an edible nature)
A few walnut pieces

Serves 4

Remove the skin and the seed of the mango. Cut a few thin slices of the mango and put them to one side. Peel the banana and juice half the lemon making sure that you remove any pips.

Put all the ingredients in the processor and blend until the mixture is smooth and gooey (if you use Cacao Nibs, they will stay in small pieces, giving some texture to the mixture).

Place into wine glasses, bowls or a plastic tub and leave to set in the fridge for one to two hours (if you put your mixture in a plastic tub, you should be able to ‘pop’ it out once it has set and slice it so you can serve it in the same way as the picture). Entertain yourself and your guests with wild antics, then serve garnished with the sliced mango from earlier, Red Berry Sauce (below), fresh raspberries and a few walnut pieces.

Red Berry Sauce

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons Goji berries – soaked in 50ml for one hour

120g fresh soft fruits (raspberries, strawberries, pitted cherries, etc)

Place Goji berries, the water they were soaking in and the soft fruit into your processor/blender. Blend until the mixture becomes a smooth, gooey consistency. If the sauce is not smooth enough, add more fruit or a little water.
